I'm inclined to agree with those questioning the wisdom, not only of a manufacturer putting a specific city on a garbage truck but then painting weathering over it. Can't just repaint the door on that one without extra steps.
Unless of course you're already modeling the city of Ironwood.
FWIW, where I grew up, our area was served by trucks from three other towns plus our own.
It wasn't uncommon to see "Cheshire Hauling", "Wallingford Sanitation", "Yalesville Carting", or "City of Meriden" on truck doors.
For purposes of equity, the jurisdictions were rotated monthly, but pickup was always on the same day(s). They all rotated to different jurisdictions on different days, so they remained busy four or five days a week.
IIRC, this practice continued until the mid '60's.
Many of these same trucks were fitted with plows in the winter for snow removal in the '50's, but were eventually all replaced by dump trucks.
