Begging your patience, this is my first attempt at posting pictures.

I've found this method of facing commutators to work well. I use a tool made from flat aluminum stock. Drill a hole the size of the armature shaft or in this case the size of the oil slinger. Glue wet or dry sand paper to the tool using spray adhesive, 400 on one side, 600 on the other. Then insert the armature shaft in 400 grit side of the tool and twist it until the commutator is flat. Repeat this on the 600 grit side.
