Improvement? let me know. i'm prob. going to aquire a new bright coal tender and paint it similar to this one, the rough paint on the sides were from using brake cleaner to remove the stickers. in person it looks better more of a older look than it does with the flash. i was going to purchase some jack daniels stickers for my next one. but do you think one of the new bright coal tenders would look allrite as a tender? what improvements would you make?

thanks in advance guys.
before.
little box on the rear. box was removed.

Doug, honest response---it looks mighty close to perfect already. I'd change the red on the tender to match the cherry-red gloss on the locomotive, but that's all. Bring a Kentucky boy, I prefer bourbon to Jack's servin', but whiskey in any form is mother's milk.

Per above ...

Red on tender frame to match loco trim. Dark grey on trucks (leaf springs), and black on wheels.

Gold paint on handrails would echo those of loco, too.

Maybe some lettering on the side of the tender?

My 2-cents!

Have fun!

What type of paint were you looking for? Standard oil-based spray-can stuff? Acrylic hobby paint from a small jar?

Try looking at Krylon Banner Red for the first (though I think that's gloss, rather than satin). Check out a craft store like Michael's or LHS for the second.

Cheers,

spray can stuff. but i'm not even sure what color it is.
i guess i'll try krylon banner red and see if it comes out any closer.
Bring the loco with you to the hardware store, and compare the loco's red color to the sample color caps on the paint cans.

This link shows various Krylon spray colors (color chart about 1/2 way down the page):

http://www.krylon.com/products/indooroutdoor_paint/

They also have a "Tomato" color which might be a better match for your loco's red.

Good luck,

TJ
