If the gear ratios/motors allow them to run very close to the same speed when not coupled together then yes. If they run at different speeds however they'll just fight each other as one drags/pushes the other around.
Tell us what control system you have ?.. If you are older analog DC, good luck......
If you are newer DCC you can consist, triple head, and speed match a Bachmann 2-8-0 steam engine with an Athearn SD45 diesel and a brass Brill trolley car if they are all DCC, too..

If they don't match speeds they will shred traction tires if they have any.
