My husband's father passed away several years ago and Christmas eve his train set came in the mail. It is the 751W Union Pacific set which included all three cars, an extra 753 body top, lots of track, 2 bridges and some type of red, green crossing signal. All of the cars came in their original boxes. The train cars are not in the best shape as the engine's under carriage by the wheels is cracked and missing pieces. The last car is missing the end cap piece. Both vestibules are with the set which is a bonus. I have been on Ebay and been googling the internet for information and came across this site.
I now know that my set is not from 1934 but would like more information on how to tell the difference between 1935 and 36. Also does anyone know exactly what came in a complete set? This would help me to know if we received all of the pieces. Thanks for all of your help.

It is Lionel.Prewar o/027 scale. For aluminum finish the best you could do is 35 and 36.These were inexpensive sets.

BTW you posted in CLassic Trains(Real Trains). You want to delete it and go to CLassic Toy Trains.But they just answered the question. All you have to do is get a 35 or 36 catalog reprint.

It is an O gauge Lionel Union Pacific 751W trainset brown and yellow. The car numbers are 752W, 753 and 754.

Brown and yellow were made until 41.

Ok I found the 36 listing. The set is 758W( unless a misprint.) The extra 753 body was the second coach. It does have a whistle and an Obsevation car. The set sold for 25. So it as not the set I thought it was it had a 67 whistle controller ona oneOTC lockon 16 curves and 4 straight pieces of track.
The cat said that in 36 they added the extra coach there is your difference.You lucked out on that one.
The othe rset is a 751e without a whistle.
