Hello we are looking for information on a Pennslyania 249 Lionel 027. It was bought some were between 1955 and 1965. Any and all information would be great. Not looking to sell it just to get it working good for my kids. Here is a pic of it. My son and I are just getting into the hobby so any and all information would be great.

If you would like to know something more specific ask away.:D

Welcome to the site.

Edit again,

Yours looks like all it might need is some lubrication from sitting so long?
From the picture of it, it looks in great shape!

Hod,

Welcome to the forum. That's a nice #249 "Scout-type" loco (and mated tender) that were made in 1958 (only), and sold as part of the #1590 freight set. You loco appears to be in rather nice condition, as often the paint on the orange stripe is degraded significantly. I happen to have two of these sets, which I've discussed in a couple of threads on the forum. One of the photo-icons in the first post of the first link below shows the original 1958 catalog description of the set.

Also, some other informative background info:

Let us know what we can do to help get you running.

Good luck!

No one replied from last night when he posted, so I had to say something as I didn't want him to think he was being ignored.:D

His stripe looks in great shape?

Hod like I said, If you would like to know something more specific ask away.

Thanks everyone for the fast replays. Just now getting alittle time to sit down in front of the computer. I will do more search of it in the threads. Looks like a great place for information. Hope to have it ready for Xmas.

I will ask more questions as they come.

Hod,

I forgot about this thread, too:

http://www.modeltrainforum.com/showthread.php?t=3001

Check out the attached photo-image in Post #4 there. It's a copy of the original operator's instructions for the 249. Pretty simple, but offers a basic overview of the e-unit operation, lubrication points, etc.

Also, Post #1 on that same thread includes some pics that show the loco disassembled, with shots of the motor itself, etc.

Cheers,

TJ
