Just a suggestion, but if you have a DC layout, go ahead and switch to DCC. Ive been in the hobby for almost 70 years and until just recently I always was DC. Now my N scale layout is small ( 3 x 8) so I thought I dont need DCC. It's too expensive and too complicated. Well, I was wrong, the prices have come down and its not hard at all. I started with inexpensive NCE power cab ($180) and BLI steam and diesel with sound. Ive also changed all my old Kato diesels to DCC and installing the decoders took all of 10 minutes. No sound in those units, that might take longer!
I can tell you all that operating the layout is much much more fun now; so much more you can do. I love it. And a thank you to the member who recommended Litchfield Station in AZ for all my DCC needs. So lets run some trains!!!!!!!!!!
