looking for some ideals for it. right now my boards are just painted a yuk green. looking for something a little better than that. something that a little more real. any ideals ?

Have you considered going to---don't cringe---a sewing store? Start with the image of green felt, like on a pool table. Those places have bolts of cloth in all kinds of colors and textures, and you can get spray cans of adhesive there or at hobby stores to stick ot to your yuk green boards.

One thing I am going to try is taking the sheets of 'grass' available at hobby stores. Laid down by themselves they look out of place a bit, but by adding slight elevations, rocks, dirt, and some drybrushing, they could add alot of character that way. The grass mats by themselves need alot of help.
