Unfortunately! I can't answer the question, although unless there is some scenery detail (like a switch stand) included, I would guess that scale doesn't matter.

However, if you have to add switch machines, why not use an under the table model instead?

I would think they should. I have the Walthers machines, and have one on my N line. Trickier tip install, but I would think yes because odd the same concept. Maybe just different diameter of the wire/ actuator.

Side mounted?

The online 'caltalogs' all label the Peco Side Mounted Turnout Motors (PL 11) as HO. Do they work with N switches?

I don't know about the side mounted Peco machine, in fact, I didn't know they made one. The normal Peco switch machine is a twin-coil type which snaps onto the bottom of the Peco turnout. For these, both the machines and, of course, the turnouts themselves, are different sizes in HO and N, so they would not be interchangeable.
