I got this set for christmas back in 1985 and I don't use it anymore. Actually haven't used it in about 10 years. I want someone to have it that will get use out of it and enjoy having it. I just don't have the room for it and hate seeing it collect dust. I am located in Frankfort, KY so having it shipped may be too expensive. I am asking $150 as the locomotive itself retails now for $65 according to the latest Lionel book. Please ask any questions if needed. Thanks for looking.

Guido,

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear you're getting out of model railroading, but I'm glad to hear you're trying to find a home for your set. From the pics, it's obviously been well cared-for.

Since I don't run your gauge of trains, I can offer you a neutral party's suggestions. First, it's unlikely anyone will want the track or the plywood surface. Both are nice, but shipping costs make it unlikely unless a KY user pops up---for your benefit, I hope one does.
Second, I live in Louisville, about an hour away from you. Should you find a buyer on the site and you or he want a disinterested party to complete a transaction, it wouldn't be a problem for me to help.

Best wishes on selling your set, and thank you for coming here to offer it for sale.

Nice package deal for some one around you local.
Why don't you list it on Craigs List it's for free and you can advertise in your local area take 4 good pictures and list.

Just watch out for scammers tell them cash only and hold it up to the light and check the bills.

I actually do have it on Craigslist along with a lot of other things I found in my garage that I don't need. I work for a bank so I'm well aware of fraud....thank goodness. And trust me...If I had the space and time, it would be running like it did on Christmas morning. It was one of the coolest gifts a 7 year old could ask for. But do you think it would sell better if I removed all of the tracks? It would help me out by freeing up an entire section of wall in my garage. Shipping would be more effecient as well. Thank you for your feedback.

I would think it would sell better all together for someone to pickup that's in your area.
Do you have the buildings that went on it. Are you including them in the sale?
If so put a picture of them instead of the book your showing.

Can you drop your price? Put $150.00 or BO in the ad. I once sold something and put the price I wanted and BO with it. And ended up getting more then I wanted as 2 guys started a bidding war over it. I ended up getting $35.00 more then I wanted.:D

And when you list it write a good ad, not just trains for sale.
Start with the word Lionel and include all your giving away with the sale.

Thank you for the advice Big Ed. Very helpful. I will post a new ad on Craigslist just for the train set itself with what you included. And yes...I have the buildings and people that go along with it. Guess I just need to take the time and put everything back on the board as it was before storage and get some good pics.
