A Forum tech-help question re: Subscription Mode settings ...

By default, when I joined up to the forum several months ago, my settings were toggled to "receive email notice instantly" when new posts were added to threads to which I participated. This is controlled via the Edit Options / Subscription Mode settings under User CP.

However, after sticking my nose into probably far too many threads, my daily email inbox is overflowing with updates. I really don't use them. Rather, I used the "New Posts" heading on the forum directly to snoop and see what's new. So ...

I've opted to turn off my automatic Subscription Mode settings. However ...

Under options available, there's:

* Do Not Subscribe
* No Email Notification

What's the difference between the two ????

Just out of curiosity, are most of you guys using or not using the Subscription feature?

Cheers,

TJ

The subscription shows up on a list in your user cp. Mine was over 9 pages long. Much like the uplload files. I used that to search for past information.With email you know if you got spammed. I also use the new posts also but I do miss some.

Yeah, I saw that. Mine had something like 500 subscriptions. Page by page, I deleted them all. I may go back and selectively add just a few. However ...

I'm still confused as to the difference between settings availalble ... "do not subscribe" vs. "no email notification" ??? :confused:

I am not 100% sure, so maybe you could test my theory TJ:
  • "Do not subscribe" means that you will not subscribe to any threads that you create or post in, period...
  • "No e-mail notification" means that you will subscribe to the threads that you create or post in (and you already know where this list is), but you will never receive an e-mail when a new post is made in a thread you are subscribed to...

B&M,

I think you're theory is correct. Earlier today, I had deleted all of my prior Subscriptions, and toggled my setting to "No email notification". I see now (after a few new posts by me in various threads) that I have been newly subscribed to those threads, but my subscription status for each is to NOT receive notices or emails.

I'm not sure why a person would choose to do that explicitly, vs. simply turning Subscriptions fully off. Maybe using the "no email notification" setting allows one to keep track of what threads they've posted in?

Anyway ... no loosing sleep over it one way or the other.

That said, though, I'd be curious if any other forum members have any strong opinions or insight as to what settings work "best" for them.

Thanks,

TJ

You would think that the site would be set up so that you would have to check subscribe to a thread instead of instant subscriptions?:rolleyes:

I just went back and deleted all. I never knew I had so many. Is it not a waste of storage space on the site? Or doesn't it matter?

You would think that if everyone here never deleted any of them that would add up to a ton of wasted space.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
