A question for you GE locomotive fans:

I own several Dash 8-BW locomotives from Atlas and Kato that I collected well before I really knew what my long-term layout vision was. I now know that I really want mostly GE six-axle locomotives. Can I simply convert my locomotives from four-axle to six-axle by changing out the trucks (and the cab numbers), or is there more to it to be prototypical? I convert nearly all my locomotives to DCC the moment I buy them, so I don't want to take the eBay loss if I don't have to should I choose to sell them.

All my experience is with Bachmann locomotives, but I can tell you 3-axle trucks wouldn't fit the frame of a 4-axle locomotive without some serious surgery :eek:hwell:

Your comment got me thinking. In addition to my 4-axle Dash 8's, I also have several 6-axle Dash 8's. It might be worth some experimentation.
