Gears in one Basket

Hi Everybody.
I've got a used Bachmann F-3 that I'm putting back together, but my patience is getting thin. Does somebody have a solution of keeping the gears & wipers in place while assembling the wheelset?

I managed to get everything back together using a small elastic to keep the wipers from getting in the way. I can't seem to get the motor running though, but I hope new brushes will do the trick.
