Hey all,


Whats the difference between the GP-35/38/40 series of locomotives vs the SD-40 series?

They look similar, but the SD-40 series looks longer.....or are they too different?

The reason I'm asking is because I was looking at buying a SD-40 shell to try and fit it onto an GP-38 chassis..

Just wondering if it would work....

look more carefully : GP is 4 axle loco, SD is 6

Also Ianbeside the obvious of the number of axles the four axle GP's(GEEPS) were mainly used for switching and shortlines; where the 6 axle locos SD's were mainly used for Mainline work.

I always liked the 4-axle GP's because they fit on my turntable nicely. The 6-axles don't fit well on there (some do, some don't). It doesn't stop me from buying the 6-axle locos though. I like to own a little of each!

while i like the SD series more, Geeps work much better on my tight curves.
