My grandfather had a track builf approx 20 yrs ago. The track and trains have been sitting. I tried to use it agian today and I tried 3-4 loco's and they would all light up on the track and some would go approx 3-4 feet before they stop. I don't know if I should start trouble shooting with the locomotives or look at the transformer. Any suggestions would be great.....I would like to get it running for my child that is on the way. Any links to locomotive rebuilds would be great. I can fix thing I just have no idea where to start.

I'd check the loco first even though i think the problem lies in the track. Just take two leads from the transformer and touch the wheels. They should run. Also you may want to lubricate the engines.

I feel the problem is in the track. Probably dirty and oxidized. Clean the track, a tiring, boring and monotonous job. For large jobs I've used alcohol and a good rag. This should become a weekly/monthly chore, depending on how much the track is used and the environment.
