My HO diesel that I have had for quite some has run like a champ for a long time now. However, I just recently noticed some stalling issues, and I noticed that the front wheels move a lot more than I think they should. The whole piece that holds the 2 pairs of front wheels slides in all directions way more than the the back set (which basically stays in place and just turns). My other diesel switcher does not have this. Is this a problem, and if so, how can I fix it? Thank you for your help whoever finds this.

In the pictures you can see how far it slides left and right (relative to the camera position) - it also does that in the forward backward direction

There's a plastic U-shaped "cover" that snaps over the worm gear and hold the truck assembly against it and "in position" on the frame.

Could that be cracked or broken?

Sometimes you just have to gently take things apart, and then re-assemble them to find where the problem is...

Either the truck is growing hair or you have a lot of fuzz wrapped around the axel there.
