Hello, I picked up an O-gauge Lionel set with FasTrack and the 4-4-2 engine. I need to build a small platform for it as my floors aren't exactly level. I think I'm going to go with a circle rather than the oval, which means the track will be 50"x50". Can I build the platform to 52"x52"? That would give me an inch clearance all around. I'm thinking that would be enough but I figured I'd better ask first. I will be using a molding around the edges to protect the train, but I thought this might interfere. I'll go bigger if I have to, but I have a small house and every inch counts.
Thanks

Just place your engine on the track and measure the overhang. That is what the clearance is for. A wall is a good idea for under a 3 inch clearance. You can off set the clearance so the far end has more space than what is in front of you.
