A friend just gave me a bunch of his powered turnouts. They're Atlas HO brand and there are no instructions and I'm not sure how to wire them. I have both DC and DCC power packs available, but need help to wire the turnouts. There's 3 connection screws... marked 1,2 and 3. What do I hook up and to where? What works well to switch the turnout?
I'm also going to try one of the motors on my PECO turnouts. Any opinions on whether this will work?
Please help me out.

Recommended to always a CDU, or sooner or later u WILL burn up a coil! :D
And, u can use either AC or DC for power.

12vdc is plenty plenty.

Thanks to all. A great help. I'll look for a CDU. What kind of push buttons? or can toggles work? I'm assuming the coils shown in the diagram are the coils inside the turnout motor.

Almost any PB can work, probably rated 2A or better.
A toggle can work, it should be momentary. On-Off-On.
Yes, the coils are in the twin-coil switch machine or turnout motor.
Black goes to the center terminal of a Snap Switch.

I would use a push-button, and make sure you only push it very briefly. Too much current going through those coils for too long and the magic smoke gets out. Then they no worky no more! :(

(I just noticed this is my 2000th post. I need to get a life.)
