I wanted an IC caboose to go with my K-Line 2-8-4, but it seems steam era hacks are not available. I found a decal set on eBay and the looked for a suitable caboose. It came in the form of a wood side off set cupola caboose made by K-Line, lettered in PRR.

I stripped the paint and repainted it boxcar red. I placed the decals and gave the body a couple coats of Dulcote. I reassembled the caboose and it was good to go...

Not an exact copy but close enough...

Nice job. Is that really boxcar red?

I'm not a real life train guy to know. Just playing with prewar toys :)

Thanks everybody!

Mike, it is a version of boxcar red. There are a few variants that all differ slightly but are called boxcar red. This one seems more brown than the standard color, but that was the look I was going for.

Tough working from black and white photos!

Thanks Bill and Spence. I am slowly getting back into painting and decaling.

I am working up the nerve to paint an undecorated Atlas GP9 in Penn Central...

Looks good, the only thing missing is that extra window. :) Nice paint job...
Thanks John. Yeah, the handbrakes are wrong too. Not quite up to cutting into cars just yet....
