Has anyone retro-fitted a liquid smoke unit in a post-war Lionel Hudson Dreyfuss 221? (I'm sure somebody has)
If so, what P/N fits and how difficult is it to install?
I'm also in the process of building a more realistic tender for the Dreyfuss hudson from a 6026 shell -- does anyone know if the 8050T whistle frame will work with that shell?
Thanks,
Wayne

Whenever you have a part question it is best to find the part number in a service manual or go to the Olsen Library and see the engines schematics.

That way you find out what other one may have the same part.

The 221 listed did not have smoke.

It may be factory but unlisted, or added later.

They are normally generic with minor mounting differences.

A view may help.

Wayne,

I'm not aware of anyone ever fitting a smoke unit into a 221. That's not to say it hasn't been done, though.

However, I suspect it will be a very tight fit. I've looked at my 221, and there's not much room forward of the motor and above the front truck pivot. The headlight bulb and mount takes up a bit of room there, too.

Here's spec sheets on the 6026W tender (including its frame number):

I don't know much about the 8050 tender and its frame.

Wayne,

A bit more ...

I have a post-war 233 Scout with a 233-50 liquid smoke generator (early 1960's). I had a look at this and at my 221, and am convinced that a smoke unit like this would NOT fit within the front of the 221 shell.

233 thread and photos here:

I don't know about modern liquid smoke generators ... maybe they're smaller???
