Hello folks. I haven't been here in a while. I can only support 1 money pit at a time, and this one needed to take a back seat for a while.

Anyway -
I did manage to get my old Lionel 2-4-2 running with a Blue Rail board. It is pretty cool, but I wanted something better. I "stole" an MTH 30-4023-1 set from eBay yesterday. Sometimes I get lucky. :)

We ordered one of these for my 8-yr old son for Christmas.

He has a Ready-to-Play Polar Express set, but as he said "I want a train that will run on your tracks". So, now we will have 3 locos in the house, all of which are TCS capable to some degree.

And now, the question:
I bought an MTH DSC Remote controller (the infrared one) for my new 2-8-0 set. I have a 5 car passenger consist that I would like to pull with the 2-8-0, but don't want to pull that much current through the remote controller "base station".

Can the base station be powered through the track connections, recognizing that the base station will need to be on for a few seconds before I energize the rails?
