This is an ebay purchase. I needed some center PU for a project. These came from tender since one is missing a knuckle.
The first picture shows a gunk buildup on the wheel. Basically a mixture of dirt and oil. When dry, it flakes off but if it is oily it sort of mushes about with the wire wheel. I had to use a little paint thinner after the brushing. All in all a good reason to keep the track clean. I have seen this on HO rolling stock trucks too. These were over oiled. I preer the rusty ones. You get them cheeper and they clean up just great!

Trestle Power

Just to jazz up this thread an extra feature.
A few years back I had an interests in trestles. This is my current way of using them. I like the old metal U. I try to get them by the bag at train shows. Rusty, whatever, they paint up well. Then I use a number 4-40 screw at 5/8th length with a nut to attach it to the trestle. The extra long screw had to be special ordered from Fastenal. With them I get the hardwardware by the bag of 100. The extra length is needed for the O gage track. With 027 you can go shorter. I used the 027 weathered look as an example. You do need to enlarge the holes with a 7/64th drill.
The old sets have different types of fasteners. I bought a new one with just the A size and they had the u piece in plastic.
My raised trestle on my table is O gage track.
