Hi. I brought this question up on another train site, and didn't get any replys. Could be they just didn't know either, as this problem probably doesn't come up much.

I had to remove the truck on my prewar 2235W Tender, and in the process, had to grind away the rivet end of the pin the truck pivots on. This pin has a riveted end and a snapring end.

My question is, how do I obtain one of these? Anyone have a part number? I bought a PreWar coupler rebuilding kit off E-Bay, and it has all the stuff I need in it, except for that type of pin.

The kit does have pins, but they look like you would put them in from the bottom and then just slip on a snap ring. Where the rivet end would be, is a nailhead type of end. Also, I think the ones I got in the kit aren't long enough to go through the coupler, the truck, a thin washer; and the tender frame. The metal from the coupler is fairly thick.

Any help would be appreciated.

For parts questions seek out the part suppliers. Olsen or the Train Tender would know.
I would get a piece of brass rod, groove both ends and go with snap rings.
Drop the rivet, to be practicle.
The tender is not listed under the Olsen Library, that part woild be just part of the truck, so replace it all. If you want original.

I've been replacing my Lionel truck rivets with small stainless metric-thread screws ... low-profile round head with an inset Allen (hex) socket. Screw head facing up, locknut (with nylon insert) on the bottom. Washers (steel or nylon) as needed.

Not authentic, but works for me ... servicable down the road.

Cheers,

On line shopping, ebay, and electronics, have made the hobby what it is today. Competition is stiff to sell new items, ebay , making parts and used trains easily available. The interests is leaning toward more electronics, keeping prices down on used items. Books have increased with the need to know what you are buying.
