I have a couple of the Lionel 40' reefers on order (P/N 2026091). I just noticed that in their catalog and also the dealer ads the actual length is listed as 14". According to my scale ruler, that is 56 scale feet - which is surprising to say the least.

Are these actually 50' reefers?

I believe the ad copy is incorrect. You can see they have it sitting on a piece of Fastrack. If you count the ties on the Fastrack, the car comes out to be about 10 1/2" long. A 10" piece of Fastrack has 24 ties, and I count roughly 26 ties for the car length. The angle makes it difficult to be exactly sure, but I'll bet that's just a scale 40' reefer.

Thank you. I had not thought about using tie spacing as a unit of measure - I will in the future. The picture of the car does not have the "normal" length, width, and height markings on it either.
