I added a switch track. It has two switches, right and left, and the control box that has two levers. Each lever has a red and green plastic light (actually there is only one light inside the control box) with 3 wires for each side.

Anyway, I am hooking it up for the first time this year and I am only using one switch. I made a little pull out where the train can back in and drop some cars. My question is this it seems to work fine but the light in the control box does not come on. Do I have to have both switches installed to get it to work or do I need to run a wire from the switch to the transformer. I do not have the original instructions for this and the ones I found online were for much newer version then mine.

Thank you all so much. Train looks great around the tree this year. Better then last year, added a few more period correct extras. :)

Switch controlller

Three wires feed the switch. One is the ground this is connected in the center where the light is. The other two are from the coills that have power. One feeds the bulb and then grounds. This bulb is always on. Then the switch just grounds one coil to activate. The bulb does not pull enough power to activate the coil . Make sense?

Yes and no. So from the sounds of it the light on the control box should always be on just like the light on the switch itself. So mine is not which means there is a problem. I changed the bulb and nothing changed. So that means something is wrong in the control box?
Mine are 1122 Es. Not sure if that means anything. I am sorry I am a novice.

First make sure that any track sections that are insulated do not isolate the switches. They need power. Are they getting it? can you screwdriver two poles on the switch and make it work? The switches need isolated pins at the inner rails where the two tracks Y.
The wire could be old and brittle. Maybe a connection broke.

The switch works perfectly the light in the control box just doesnt light up. I am sorry I may have over stated the issue.
Pull the lever, switch activates and the lanturn turns.
Its just the light bulb in the control box that I can not get to turn on. At first I though maybe it wasnt hooked up properly. But since it works, other then the light, I am guessing I need to open up the control box again and put a meter on it to see whats happening.
Should the light in the contoler be on all the time like the lanturn on the switch?
Thank you again. I really appreciate it.
