I know it's probably a cut and paste from the original PE with the puffer smoke unit, cause 6 drops won't do anything?

I'm thinking 20 to start a dry unit and then add 10-15 as it depletes?

Sound about right??

I usually have post-its in all the boxes, but none on this one...

Six sounds rather light for any smoke unit including the old puffer units. I assume this is the standard starter set Lionchief? If that's the case then it's still the same old puffer unit. Only Lionchief Plus locomotives have fan driven units. Also ensure that the on/off switch in the cab is turned on.

Jeff: I have the original stock Polar Express set on my layout with the puffer unit Berkshire from 2005 and it still runs like a charm and smokes very well. I put in 10 or 11 drops when the smoke starts fading and it comes back smoking up a storm every time. Not bad after 14 years of operation. :)

Good to see you Vern!!! We ran the first set so much burned up the motor!! New engine is a LC with the larger Series II motor...

If you're talking fan driven smoke, I start at around 20-30 drops. For puffers, 6-8 is a good start and see what happens.
Darn GRJ, I should have had you work some magic on this one before you sent it!! :)

Good to see you Jeff! Our 2005 stock Polar Express set continues to amaze us. We added a couple of add-on cars over the years, making a 5-car set which seems just right for the layout. I keep it clean, the axles lubed, and try not to overfill the smoke unit. But we've never had the need to run it more than 20-25 minutes at a time. Maybe that's the key. Anyway, we're happy with it and the grandkids love it.

Happy trainin'. :)
