I have a lionchief polar express steamer that i would like bluetooth. Is it just s matter of changing the board or is it more involved?

Not sure of the model number but its just like that one, just without blue tooth. Hence the original question.

From what I read Lionchief is Bluetooth. If you are sure about the lack of it get the model number and contact Lionel support. The board covers Lionchief and USB,. It may be just the matter of getting a Lionel app or you may have to send the engine in for an upgrade,
The in general electronic boards are limited in supply. Lionel has it in stock but must be contacted first.

Not all Lionchief is able to be controlled through the Bluetooth app. I believe it's installed in just about all of the current production stuff, but as far as I'm aware it was only remote controllable with the early non-bluetooth Lionchief stuff.

Agreed your best path is just use the universal remote in hotspot mode. Then remote talks to the engine and translates to bluetooth to the app.
Second part of this is, I would gladly post details on a bluetooth enabled LC board version- the problem is, many of the connectors are different than your non-bluetooth board making a conversion that much more impractical.
If you are going to run Lionchief in general- I recommend getting a universal remote.

Unless they've fixed it, the Universal Remote operating as a hotspot can't handle the smoke for LC+ steam. I tried using it with an LC+ Camelback, and it would turn the heater on, but not the fan! Finally got Lionel to admit there was a problem. I haven't seen an update for the Universal remote for a long time, so I doubt it's fixed. * Just checked, still at 1.3 for the current version. *
