Just got set out for the first time in 35+ years. Runs great, but would like to know what smoke it uses or can be used. If need be anyway to tell the difference in the smoke unit. 2037 is 100% original!

They are pellets. To use liquid you add a little fiberglass and convert later on. It is very easy to do. A very popular topic.

I use them, and they work just like the original.

Look up - The Train Tender then once there go to parts photo's scroll down on left to smoke and click a new menu appears with different smoke units including the conversion kit with pictures and there is also instructions there as well. It is not that hard to do.
Don't forget the bulk section as prices for many parts bulbs , rollers etc are very reasonable.

Yes. I had a 2037 and didn't realize it used the pellets. Filled it with fluid and it smoked away.

UPDATE: took it all apart to see how it all works. Element is good, but piston was sticking and wouldn't puff. Cleaned all up, drop of light oil on piston...local shop had Lionel fluid which stated was OK for all smoker engines. All HAPPY now. Got a few other questions later on new thread.

From the above post that uses a resistor as heating element... what is the OHM and WATT ratting? Interesting use of a resistor?
