I had a 2037 prewar steamer. One wheel's press fit failed. That allowed the wheel to move freely along the axle. It was held in place by the motor chassis on one side and the loco's driving rod on the other. When I removed the rod, the wheel came right off.

I cleaned the axle and the wheel's hole with alcohol. Then I used JB Weld to affix the wheel.

Last I heard, the eBay buyer was ecstatic with the loco I sold him.
