First of all i'm new to railroad modeling, so hello out there.

I'm doing some research so i can build a correct 1897 Seaboard Air Line Special Train #540. This train ran from Weldon, NC to Portsmouth, Va. What i'm looking for specifically are the specific cars and what the paint schemes were so i can duplicate them. If anyone can point me in the right direction, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, ED

google "1897 seaboard train" Here is one.

Got the city of Hamlet,NC

You will need to check towns and museums. Try a Google image search.

Your time may be off the timeline for a RR map is 1844 to 1873. A conector between cities and river boats.
It's the fourth map.

Thanks T man. I've actually obtained some info from a book by Richard Price on the SALR & this particuliar American 4-4-0 train........& a photo. The 540 special was only a three car passenger train. It set a speed record on November 21, 1896, from Weldon to the shops in Portsmouth in 72.5 minutes, covering 76.8 miles.
