Magnetic couplers... I thought I read that the micro-trains compatible coupler on the diesel N scale BLIs was magnetic and therefore I could at least experiment with one car since I bought a kato magnetic section to experiment with. It seems it is not, however, and the "inexpensive" set of Kato rolling stock I picked up used (free technically) don't have any metal in the couplers and I'm not sure it's worth spending any money on the cheap little buggers. I'll probably just use them to practice weathering. In the mean time, I'd like to A) Get my sd70ACe set up for magnetic coupling and B)get some decent quality rolling stock hopefully with magnetic couplers already included. Do any of the micro-trains rolling stock include these? Further, the MT part numbering system might as well be in an alien tongue. What do I need to get a magnetic coupler on loco?

I have found that many items I have bought come with the metal piece for me to install, but some come with it installed. I find I have to assemble a lot of stuff myself. A lot of Kato cars have come with the metal magnetic pieces to install, and if you buy used it's chancy whether the prior owner has been inconsiderate enough to have discarded magnetic coupler parts, detail parts for cars, instructions, etc. It's lovely when they install MTL body-mounted couplers, no mag parts, andf replace original trucks with incorrect trucks without the coupler box that can't traverse through curves. The little horrors can be worse. Magnetic coupler part? What do I need that for? (File 13).
