I was personally a bit surprised that they introduced a locomotive in the first place. I suspect as you say, the experiment may have not been considered a success.

Thur or Fri a non-powered AT&SF was offered and it sold out in about 2 hours.

Unpowered is easy, it's just like another piece of rolling stock. It's when you add power and electronics that the wheels start to fall off.

Menards has been quiet on the Locomotive scene for quite awhile and some of the last communications from them regarding warranty issues or whatever that might be called on Betas, is not promising.

I found the "stuff it" attitude that was described here recently to be somewhat troubling. That's the kind of thing that will bury a project like this in a hurry!
