Metal Wheel sets

I have a few cars with metal wheels. I like the sound and they seem to roll allot better. What is the best way to convert old cars to have the newer wheels? Can the old trucks just have their axles replaced or should the whole truck be replaced. If the complete trucks need to be replaced and I want to update the couplers I might as well replace the car.

I like the proto because of the price. I have tried several different brands and the difference was not enough to pay a lot of extra money for. I do like the metal wheels and I am replacing the plastic a little at a time.
