Metal Wheel sets

I have a few cars with metal wheels. I like the sound and they seem to roll allot better. What is the best way to convert old cars to have the newer wheels? Can the old trucks just have their axles replaced or should the whole truck be replaced. If the complete trucks need to be replaced and I want to update the couplers I might as well replace the car.

Buy them through Walthers or replace the complete wheel set, truck and all.

Proto 2000 and Atlas both make replacement trucks and wheels.
