Has anyone used MRC's Loco Genie: Loco GenieTM
Can usually find them for about $45.00

I installed one in a Bachmann On30 2-6-0 and was quite pleased with it.

Installing their diesel sound one in a bashed Athearn SW1500.

It does come with sound. Not the greatest sound, but not the worst.

I do take it a step further and use a LiPo battery instead of track power.

My concern would be the quality of the decoder. There DC transformers where well made. The DCC decoders were not up to par with other brands. They had a high failure rate for a while. They might have improved in the last few years but I have up on the decoders and went with other brands.

So far I haven't had any problems, but if anything happens I'll share it. Not overly thrilled with the sound. Maybe a different speaker might work better. But, I didn't use the Loco Genie for sound, but for the ease of installation especially since I use BPRC. And, it comes with its own throttle.

If sound quality is the issue try using baffle on the speaker. It's a little enclosure for the back of the speaker. I have had these make a big difference. Also the direction the speaker is aimed my make a difference.
