I have been pondering on joining a model train club for awhile now and am still sitting on the fence trying to decide if it's something I want to do. Here in Calgary, there are a few choices in clubs. There are clubs that do free-lance, modules and prototype. I went and visited one club that did a free-lance layout and was quite impressed. The layout was huge! They have their own building. Recently I inquired about joining a club that did modules and was informed that their monthly meetings were just mostly planning meetings for upcoming shows.
One of my problems about joining a club is commitment. Because of my work schedule (my shifts rotate every 6 weeks) I can't commit to weekly meetings, but would show up when I can. I have several reasons that I would want to join a club but am curious as to what yours are, so I am going to try a poll.
1. camaraderie ( just like to get together with fellow hobbyists)
2. educational. ( learn something new)
3. Working train sessions
4. Other
