BUT, I'm still having some issues:(
Yeah, I know, Pics!
Here's the problem. After finally getting the thrust washer & washer, I decided to forgo trying to wire the horn untill I knew that I was heading in the right direction. I greased her up, lubed her and set her on the tracks. I'm using a 1033, 90W transformer that puts out great #'s. All she wanted to do, was click, click, click. The headlamp was on, and I had the shell off. I could see the e-coil raising and lowering and the blunger rotating the drum. I gave her a gentle push forward, nothing. I started trying to use the directional control going back and forth. Finally there was some movement. It was less than an inch either way, with a stop in between(Neutral works?)
Finally she took off in reverse and flew!!! But when I try to go forward, she runs about a 12-18" then stops and just sits. Get her back to reverse, and off she goes, FAST!! Forward, 12-18", stop.
There's no smoke, nothing's burning up or glowing red hot. Do you think that this is a problem with my E-unit?

Thanks in advance for all your help, AND some darn fine instructional material:)

Wait till you see flames then ask us again.

It could be a lot of things.
Did you mess with the brushes any? You didn't oil them did you?

Rail clean? You don't have fiber pins connecting the rails do you?

Do you have another engine to see if it works on the track?

Reverser problems

I had this same issue with my B&M 226. I have 2 so it was easy to see what the difference was. Reverse works just fine meaning that the contacts for the reverser are clean and making well. The contacts for forward are not as clean as they should be. The reverser works like a ratchet mechanism to tun the contactor drum. If the reverser is activated (via the switch on the outside of the body) power is applied and the drum is turned one click. Neutral is one of these locations. One more click is forward. Another click is neutral then another click is reverse. If it clicks one more time you are back at the first neutral position. If you remove the body and look from the right side under the reverser switch and very near the frame, there is an orfice that has several moving parts. The first piece you see moves up and down. The up movement turns the drum. The contactors contact the drum and the bottom near the frame of the train. Using a good flashlight look carefully at the drum and you should be able to make out some corrosion, probably green in color. Brush, scrape or polish it away. Go all the way around the drum cleaning in this fashion. This should solve your problem. If you need some pics of the parts I can email them to you so you can get this puppy goin in the right direction!

E-unit

I knew that TTIWWP! My camera won't focus close enough to show the e-unit clearly! :(

K, I re-built the e-unit. It's as clean and free of oil and corrosion as if it were new. I re-wired it, and made sure that the plunger was working properly.

I'm going to take it off today and make sure that all the contacts are not bent and see if the drum is damaged.

What puzzles me, is how it does reverse to forward long enough for the engine to advance for a couple of feet then stop.

Big Ed, my 2026, and 2035 both work fine on that track. forward and reverse, good speed and the W-tenders whistle fine. No, to the other questions!

I'll try and get some, "PICTURES" again:)

Thanks for the help!

Turn your lever to shut the e unit off in a good direction and run it. The connection between the rails and wheels is poor cycling the unit. Maybe a center roller. Clean them up with a scotchbrite pad.

2 Dirty Wheels?

Well, it appears that the front truck rollers were hopefully the problem. I turned the lights off and tried running the engine and noticed some sparking under the truck. turned on the lights, checked the truck and the where the rollers are held in place(plastic), it had cracked and they were moving around.
Luckily, I got on ebay, and lo and behold, there was a 200 series front truck just waiting for me to buy!
As soon as I get it, I'll update(with pics!:D) and if I'm lucky, can move on to the next project.

Thanks for all the advice:)

Don't you see any thing The T man does in his posts?

You would have made him proud by fixing those cracks with some epoxy.

T man does wonders with it.
