I have the TMCC version of that engine. It came with unadvertised cruise but only one chuff. Thats been changed but I still have to remove the number boards. It was modeled after the Harriman UP/SP 2-8-0s. Not really that close to any NYC 2-8-0s but I also prefer smaller engines so it stays on the roster.

I've got the earliest issue of this locomotive, a SP version from around 2000. One chuff a revolution, puffer smoke unit, and 32 speed step TMCC with no cruise. It's probably the worst of my non cruise TMCC locomotives, slowing noticeably on 054 and 072 curves. It does look nice though. I plan a fan driven smoke unit upgrade with either a Cruise M, Supper Chuffer and Chuff Generator or a PS3 conversion. It depends on if I want to cram the extra electronics in the small space in the locomotive (TMCC) or the small space in the tender (PS3). It does pull well though. Has no problem moving a 12-15 car freight train of modern scale cars.

Installing a Cruise M is no problem. This is the smoke unit I put in mine.

4 chuffs is a little tricker. I ended up using an EOB Drop in which generates 2 or 4 chuffs on the board but I suspect using John's chuff generator will be an easier option. The super chuffer is icing on the cake but not really needed unless you want the lighting effects.

Do you mean it really wants larger radii than 54" and 72"?

Running at "realistic" speeds (about 30 scale MPH) the Consolidation slows to about 20 or so scale MPH going around either 054 or 072 curves, when it's going 30 scale MPH on straights. If it's run at 60-70 scale MPH (faster than a real one could go) the speed difference between curves and straights isn't noticeable.

I believe that smoke unit is NLA from Lionel. I do know that with the board stack currently in the locomotive a PS2/PS3 smoke unit will not fit, so I would have to probably use a Lionchief smoke unit, if I keep the Lionel electronics.

Well, you do get smoke at idle as well with the Super-Chuffer. ;)

Ime does not doe this. One thing that works flawlessly is its cruise. I set the speed and in maintains it, even pulling a nice long trai (say 15 cars) up and down, or curves and straights.
