I have the Lionel B&O EM-1 that they offered around 2001 and it is still one of my favorites. Probably the best whistle Lionel has ever offered in one of their steam engines!

Mine is and always has been a very good runner.

Happy railroading,
Don

And if rumors are accurate, it sounds like Lionel's 2020 VisionLine announcement might be based on the N&W Class A articulated steamer -- hasn't been done since around 2000 if I'm not mistaken. Back in those days, it carried an MSRP of just a mere $1,400. Expect it to come in a tad more than that these days -- especially if it's a VisionLine model. :p

I would love it if those rumors were true but I would be very supprised. The Class A was the main item that lead to the famous "lawsuit" that almost bankrupted Lionel back in the early 2000's. As I recall, Lionel was no longer allowed to use the tooling that was used to produce the Class A because the design was stolen from MTH. If that is true, Lionel offering a Class A would require all new tooling. I have the 2000 issue Class A but would love one with Vision Line features.

Hope you are correct.

a Class "A" would be very tempting indeed. She's a sweet looking engine and one I could run on my layout.

Uhh, a tad more. If the vision offering is that I would expect maybe $2200?
