Hi everyone,

I finally got to visit my LHS after almost 6 months :) I bought a very nice Athearn Bulkhead Flat.

I can't find any prototype images; were bulkheads painted white ever actually used?

Regardless, I will need to weather to make it less ... white. I have never weathered before; could someone point me to a good resource for weathering, including the supplies I need? I hope I can get these supplies at a local Deserres (the Quebec version of Michaels).

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Bulkhead flat cars were painted in almost any colour you could think of....just do a Google search for images of "bulkhead flat cars".....

White ones got rusty, as you will see, so I would dry brush some rust colour on yours.....

Check out the internet for videos of weathering techniques. People use latex and oil paints, dry chalk powders, spray paint, dyes and other color sources to do weathering. Chances are Deserres would have all of those. There's also a subforum here that deals with painting and decaling...check it out for ideas:
