as I continue to dig thru my old train set and put things back together I find these "clips"...……..they are 3/4" wide and 2 5/8" long; anyone have a solid guess as to what the might be?

Those are normal track clips.

They hold O-gauge track together if you're not nailing it down. I think those are O27 clips, I believe the O clips are different.

got it.....found them and they are: Lionel O 6-12743 O Gauge Tubular Track Clip; as it turns out they may be ideal in giving me a better way to affix my track to the 2" rigid foam board i'm using instead of plywood....hmmmmm, gives me better options

They work great on Standard Gauge track also.
