I am just starting to make this my new hobby, but don't know much about it. I recently bought a Bachmann train set. It came with E-Z track, with rails which are either steel alloy, or nickle plated. I also just bought some old track (which is not E-Z) with brass rails, and the train stopped once it got onto it. What could be the problem here? Do they need to be cleaned? Is E-Z track not compatible with the older kind?
Also, how many engines (with running motors) are allowed to be on a track system with one transformer?
I appreciate all the help I can get. Thank you.

welcome.

bras does not need cleaning - it needs VIGOROUS cleaning. and often. your engines most probably stop because of poor contact and one of the main reasons is dirt. i would not use brass it as it is to much hustle and the good stuff is not that expensive at all.

if you all you have is a starter set i would say that your power supply is not your weakest point. there is simply no room to run more then 2-3 engines at a time and it should pull that off

BTW, i will be selling bunch of nickel silver atlas snap switches and section track soon as i'm almost done prototyping and will be using mostly flexitrack instead. perhaps can be of use to you.

its atlas code 100 sections without integrated roadbed.
i need to see how much i have but from top of my head about 18 R15 sections, 20 R22 sections, some R18 and about a dozen almost new snapswitches. those switches are of lower preformance compared to high quality/cost stuff but some still use them...

as far as as cost i'll need to see and i need some time anyways - some of it still tacked down to roadbed :)
