i do not have much room - how narrow can one make a street and keep a bit prospective

i am using dept 56 roadway - IS THERE A BETTER / SUGGESTION
dept 56 roadway does not like curves

I think the easiest solution would be to use foam core board and paint it aged concrete color or dark gray for blacktop. You have to be careful with warping though.

Another more permanent solution is to use 1/8" Masonite and paint it. It is easily cut with a jigsaw to any shape that you want.

Then if you want more realism, you can age it with black or gray chalks and stripe it with model aircraft striping tape.

You really need "lanes" that are at least two and a half inches wide, and streets look good when there is a sidewalk (at least 1" or 1 1/4", a parking lane, the 2 1/2"traffic lane, a 1/4" to 1/2" "no-man's land for the center strip, and the traffic lane for the other direction. It will still look compressed compared to the real world, but not too . . .
