Hi,
I'm new to the hobby and this is my first post. I'm hoping someone can help me with choosing an Appalachian location for the layout I'm planning.
The layout I'm planning will be set in the mid 50's to late 60's and will be primarily free form. Although it's not my intention to mirror a precise location I would like for the layout to reflect the general topography of the area as well as the actual railroads common to the area.
I suppose the best way to phrase my question would be to ask: If you were a real life train watcher back in the mid 50's to mid 60's where (in the Appalachian states) would you go to observe the most diverse railway operations (passenger and freight operations, multiple railroads operating in the same area, etc).
Thanks in advance for any replies.
