Hi All,
As you can see from the pics, I've created a pond area. What I need is some suggestions on what to "plant" on the golf course type hill surrounding it. The trees are only there temporarily. I know there's so many products out there and I don't know what to put on the hill, and with out breaking the bank. It has some fine turf down now. I'm awful new to this landscaping thing and don't even know if what I'm doing is acceptable.

Acceptable?!? It looks GREAT to me! Very realistic. It looks like you've been putting some colored lichen to good use. Maybe a few shades of that could fill out portions of the hill, too. And maybe some small sections of rock "ledge" poking out here and there?

Very nice ... post some more pics with your progress!

I think it looks great---you did a good job of it. That said, what about some wildlife? Down here in the glorious south, a pond like that will have a heron in it or a gator sunning himself on the bank. Just one of something would set it off nicely. A turtle is another thought. It's a great pond, but one lil eye-catcher to focus attention would suggest it's a live pond instead of a dead one, ya know?

What the lighter green shrubbery is, is reindeer moss I found in the flower section at Hobby Lobby. Comes in a plastic bag for a couple of bucks. Just have to pull it apart. Never used lichen but may have to make a road trip.

Two more things. First, it's your layout----no one else's opinion matters. The fact you did it and liked it settles the 'acceptable" issue. Don't ever let anyone tell you differently. Your opinion is the only one that counts.
Second, my opinion-that-doesn't count is that I don't think you need more trees. It's obviously on a railroad right-of way; when they cleared it, they would have clear-cut it to minimize maintenance, IMHO. They left the remaining trees and brush because it's too d**n muddy down there to get in and take them out!:D

Hey C&NW Nice Pond!

As Reck said its your layout and you have certainly made one heck of a pond. How many holes on your Golf course type hill and will you have any celebrity Golfers such as...thats right "TIGER" looking for balls in the rough! Good work!

Reckers is correct in that it's your railroad; so as long as your happy. It's all good from there.

But in my humble opinion since I recall you mentioning a Golf Course; then some small rock wall going around the outer edge or trees in the same manner might be nice. Looks like your area is very green so either would fit nicely with what you have going on presently.
Looks nice though so just keep up with your present trend.
