should be able to just insert a thin blade screwdriver along side the board and spread the frame enough to pop it out. reverse to install new.

At an East Coast Train Parts show, it was recommended to shave a bit off the replacement fiber board's tabs. That would minimize the amount of motor spread needed to inset it.

You do not need to remove the fiber plate to replace the sliding shoes.
Looking in each end of the motor, insert a thin screwdriver and pry up the up-turned metal as seen in the photo above, then just pull out the shoe. To insert the shoe again, just slide it in, and it will snap in place.

I've tried to replace only the shoes never had good luck. So I've found it is easier to replace the whole fiber plate.
