hi i recieved a box of trains from my grandfather. they were passed down to me . they are old , here is one of the engines http://www.postwarlionel.com/cgi-bin/postwar?ITEM=675

they are all in amazing condition , but dusty inside and not maintained for decades, just sat wrapped in a box.

how do i learn how to maintain them such as oiling ect. also i know nothing about trains or how to set up the track . where is a good place to learn?

thank you so much .

Just enough oil to lubricate. I know that may sound a bit scant, but it's the only thing I can recommend. Different engines and such require different amounts. Do not over oil. It is better to use not enough, on a regular schedule, the amount will eventually get to the proper level.

Also, try posting the numbers of your engines---if anyone has similar equipment, they can give you tips. Aside from that, I'd try using the Internet. For example, Googling "lubricating postwar Lionel engines' brings up a ton of information, including this:

You'll find it's not very difficult---the old ones were designed to be maintained by young kids.
