Welcome aboard!

Hello all,
New member and new to the hobby.
Any/all help and advice is welcome and appreciated.

Started off with a chattanooge ready to run DC, HO.
MechE-83;

Welcome to the forum! I remember a very old HO "Chattanooga Choo Choo." I think it was made by Tyco. It had the drive mechanism in the tender and the steam locomotive was just pushed along by the powered tender. I hope you have a more modern and better "chattanooga" since that old beast was pretty awful.
We are a large, easygoing, group so feel free to ask any questions you like. As Don said, we have a whole section devoted to HO-scale trains, so you will be able to find plenty of knowledgeable people there who share your interest.
The attached pdf files may help you get started on building your first layout. I wrote them specifically for new people like you who are just starting out in the hobby. There is also a good beginner's book I'd like to recommend. It is "Getting Started in Model Railroading" by jeff Wilson. It covers a variety of model railroad subjects in simple text and multiple color photos. You can order a copy from https://kalmbachhobbystore.com/products/books

Again Welcome;

Thanks All!!!

I will definitely look at/read through all that material!!

I've also picked up a few other books that I'm working through for now!

My starter set is newer Bachmann set.
I've also picked up a few old loco's from Ebay that I'm hoping to use to teach myself how to convert to DCC.

Honestly, I have a feeling the actual planning and building of sets, updating old loco's, etc. will be more fun for me than the running of the trains!
But I guess time will tell!!!

Depending upon how old they are, they may not be good candidates for DCC conversion. The older motors don't run very well using DCC.

The book "Basic DCC Wiring" by Mike Polsgrove does a good job of explaining all things DCC, including converting DC locomotive to DCC. It's available through the same link I gave you in my first response.

You have hit the nail squarely on it's head...the
planning...the building...the work bringing old
locos and cars back to life...are the very heart of
our Hobby. We love to run trains, for sure. But
we also enjoy using our hands to make things and
fix things. You'll do well.
