Hello!

I am somewhat new to the hobby (had trains as a kid and recently had the spark reignited), and would like to run some trains around the perimeter of my basement. Im trying to determine the best mounting method for running a train around the wall. Is using shelving the best, or using some sort of ceiling suspended system? This will be for HO scale and my initial train will be the Acela Express.

Thanks!

Either method will do, but I wouldn't use a suspension system unless you're actually mounting the track up very close to the ceiling. Most folks just use regular shelf mounting brackets with plywood, and some even use standard shelving as the base for the layout. I was looking for something cheap to hold maybe 10 pounds for my setup, and the cheapest pressed-metal brackets I could find were rating at 180 pounds! Basically whatever you find that is visually attractive to you will likely be suitable for the train.
