I would like to replace the "clunky" Lionel push buttons they supply with their uncoupling tracks with fascia mounted push buttons. Is there anything to be aware of as I look for a suitable replacement?

BTW on my initial O-gauge attempt I got the Lionel LCS controller so I could activate the uncouplers remotely. Then I realized that I am always close to the uncoulper when I want to activate it - so a simple push button will suffice.

Just make sure they're good for a few amps, several amps flows when you hit the uncoupler.
Yes, and there will be a surge that the switch's contacts won't like - arcing. After market auto switches good for 8 to 10 amps may be a good starting point.
